Josh McCown (Chicago Bears)

Free agent Josh McCown is reportedly the "leading candidate" to be signed as Caleb Hanie's veteran backup in Chicago.
McCown is expected to be signed by Wednesday, so he can put in a full week of practice. The Bears needed a veteran who was familiar with the offense, and McCown played under OC Mike Martz (as well as DC Rod Marinelli) in Detroit back in 2006. He won't be a threat to Caleb Hanie's starting job.

Bears signed QB Josh McCown, formerly of the 49ers.
The Bears missed out on Kyle Orton when the Chiefs beat them to him in the waivers process. McCown is a fallback option. The 32-year-old former UFL quarterback has been awful on the field throughout his eight-year NFL career, but is familiar with Mike Martz's scheme and can hold a clipboard with the best of 'em. He's probably very little threat to Caleb Hanie's starting job. In terms of the depth chart, McCown figures to compete in practice with rookie Nathan Enderle for the primary backup job.
