Alex Smith contract negotiations

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that the 49ers' offer of $24 million over three years to free agent Alex Smith remains on the table.
The proposal has not been "lowered or revoked." La Canfora also reports that team sources are "confident" Smith will re-sign with San Francisco. Smith's visit and flirtation with the Dolphins are reportedly being viewed as "a play for leverage" by NFL insiders. In other words, Miami might have to offer significantly more than $8 million per season in order to land Smith.

Seahawks sign Flynn, Smith running out of options

Alex Smith will not be flying to Seattle this week, contrary to earlier reports. That’s because the Seahawks just signed free agent quarterback Matt Flynn to a three-year, $26 million contract ($10 million guaranteed), according to Adam Schefter. Alex Smith, Peyton Manning and the Free Agency Tango

Sunday morning started off kind of slow but it revved up in the late afternoon with Matt Flynn signing a three-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks. With Flynn joining the NFC West and taking another quarterback-needy team off the market, Alex Smith's choices dwindled. Until Smith had a five-plus hour long meeting with the Miami Dolphins and reportedly began negotiations. Smith must've felt a little mistreated and thought he could have similar success in Miami with an offensive minded guy in Joe Philbin. The 49ers are set in their ways; they assign value to each player and they do... Niners Nation

San Francisco Making the Right Gamble with QB Peyton Manning

The San Francisco 49ers were just a few plays away from Super Bowl XLVI. Despite having a solid season, QB Alex Smith was unable to make those plays. It's not as if the team didn't believe he could, after the former No. 1 overall pick had the best season of his career. They showed they didn't believe in him when they allowed him to play into the final year of his contract. They showed it even more when they drafted Colin Kaepernick, a quarterback from Nevada, in the second round of the 2011 Draft. And they're showing it now, balking at extensions for Smith, and pursuing the top f... Behind the Steel Curtain

Vince Young Expresses Interest In 49ers

Although Alex Smith has returned from Miami without a contract in hand, there is always the chance he decides Miami is in fact the best place for him. While I do think Smith ends up returning to San Francisco, anything is possible. Which makes this latest tweet all the more entertaining. This is only a single tweet by a player, so let's not overreact. Given how on edge everybody is these days, I just wanted to mention that up front. Denise White works for the publicity firm that handles Vince Young. She sent out a tweet about VY to the Dolphins (h/t NFL Gridiron Gab) and Young retweeted with a... Niners Nation
